2015 Pribilof Island Swarm

On January 30, 2015 an unusual swarm of earthquakes began in the virtually aseismic central Bering Sea, near St. George in the Pribilof Islands region of Alaska. The vigorous earthquake swarm resulted in more than 100 events with magnitudes between 2.8 and 5.4. Five earthquakes had magnitudes greater than 5.

The community of St. George reported feeling several of the larger events.

Red dots represent the 2015 swarm, the gray dots represent historical seismicity in the region, and the black stars are the locations of the earthquakes with magnitudes greater than 5.
