Shila Cotton
Seismic Data Analyst

Shila is a seismic data technician for the Earthquake Center. Her primary job is examining earthquake data: identifying P and S wave arrivals to determine the location and magnitude of earthquakes in Alaska. She also produces weekly and monthly seismicity reports for use by the general public, researchers, and state and federal agencies. Shila spent 6 years in the US Navy, and honed in on her interest in earth science while using her education benefits. Outside of work, she enjoys biking, hiking, and exploring Alaska (and beyond) with her husband and two sons.
