WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR AUGUST 21, 2023 TO AUGUST 27, 2023

During the week of August 21, 2023, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 954 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 4.0 that occurred on August 21 at 06:45:05 AKDT (August 21, 14:45:05 UTC), 19 miles SE of Semisopochnoi Island.

Other notable events include a magnitude 3.6 earthquake that occurred 92 miles SW of Point Hope on August 26, 2023 06:01:16 AKDT. In addition to this event, we recorded relatively high activity in this area with other 6 earthquakes ranging in magnitude between 2.5 and 3.4 in this week.

Also, there was an increase in activity E of Atka, on the Amlia island with approximately 40 events ranging in magnitude from 1.6 to 3.3.

There were 39 icequakes recorded near Mt. Spurr, the Prince William Sound region, Icy Bay and Yakutat Bay.

3 events were reported as felt.
