WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR JULY 24, 2023 TO JULY 30, 2023

During the week of July 24, 2023, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 1024 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.0 that occurred on July 28 at 11:11:22 AKDT (July 28, 19:11:22 UTC), 19 miles NW of Mt. Douglas.

Other significant events include a magnitude 4.0 earthquake that occurred 16 miles S of Pump Station #3 on July 29, 2023 11:32:49 AKDT, this event had 24 aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 1.0 to 2.5. Also, a magnitude 3.7 earthquake that occurred 54 miles NE of Dawson City on July 27, 2023 12:51:29 AKDT.

There were three aftershocks of the July 15, 2023 magnitude 7.2 Sand Point earthquake with a magnitude above 3.5 this week. A magnitude 4.7 earthquake that occurred 53 miles SW of Sand Point on July 26, 2023 07:29:18 AKDT, a magnitude 4.5 earthquake that occurred 40 miles S of Sand Point on July 24, 2023 04:04:19 AKDT, and a magnitude 3.9 earthquake that occurred 67 miles S of Sand Point on July 28, 2023 06:27:16 AKDT.

There were 34 icequakes recorded at Mt. Spurr, Black Rapids Glacier, Prince William Sound, Miles Glacier, Icy Bay, Yakutat Bay, and in the Wrangell Mountains.

Four events were reported as felt.
