WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR JUNE 17, 2024 TO JUNE 23, 2024
During the week of June 17, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 794 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 4.8 that occurred on June 21 at 04:12:38 AKDT (June 21, 12:12:38 UTC), 58 miles S of Mt. Gareloi.
Other significant events include a magnitude 4.0 earthquake that occurred 32 miles SE of Kantishna on June 22, 2024 05:39:29 AKDT, a magnitude 3.7 earthquake that occurred 68 miles SW of Old Crow on June 22, 2024 23:59:23 AKDT, and a magnitude 3.5 earthquake that occurred 21 miles NE of Skwentna on June 23, 2024 07:57:37 AKDT, which was reported as felt in Talkeetna and Matanuska-Susitna region. Also, we observed an increase in activity approximately 40 miles NE of Arctic Village from June 20, with 10 events in this area ranging from magnitude 1.0-2.5.
Additionally, we recorded high activity E of Atka with 13 events starting on June 23.
There were 17 aftershocks of the M4.4 earthquake near Kantishna on June 8, which is decreasing activity from last week.
There were 14 icequakes recorded in the Prince William Sound and Yakutat Bay, and one event was reported as felt this week.
