NIKH sits on High Hill, near Nikolski on Umnak Island. The seismic station shares its power and communications with an Alaska Volcano Observatory webcam trained on Mount Cleveland, about 45 miles away. The webcam photos and seismic data are sent over a radio shot to the Nikolski Clinic, which gets the data to us via the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. After Atka, this is the Earthquake Center's second westernmost station. This station is operated under dedicated support from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. This site is generously hosted by our partners at the City of Nikolski.
