UAFE is an unusual station: it includes seven strong-motion sensors installed across five floors of the UAF Engineering Learning and Innovation Facility, currently the only building in Interior Alaska instrumented on several levels. Sensors on the lower floors are primarily sensitive to the motion of the earth itself. Sensors higher up also record the motion of the building induced by the earthquake. During earthquakes, motion in the upper floors tends to be strongest.
