J19K is located south of the community of Ruby. It is situated on an open hilltop in the foothills of the Kuskokwim Mountains. The installation team noted "It was not feasible to occupy the original location atop a rock outcrop, so the hut and borehole were moved to flat portion of ground approximately 100ft downslope." J19K was acquired in 2019 under dedicated support from our partners at the U.S. Geological Survey to strengthen earthquake monitoring across southern Alaska. The site was originally installed as part of the USArray project. J19K is generously hosted by our partners at the Alaska Department of Natural Resources.
