U33K is situated at the base of a rocky cliff near a cove in the community of Whale Pass on Prince of Wales Island. The site receives power from a nearby city building. U33K was acquired in 2019 under dedicated support from our partners at the U.S. Geological Survey to strengthen earthquake monitoring across southern Alaska. The site was originally installed as part of the USArray project.
