WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR FEBRUARY 26, 2024 TO MARCH 3, 2024

During the week of February 26, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 751 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.5 that occurred on February 28 at 06:50:21 AKDT (February 28, 15:50:21 UTC), 5 miles S of Semisopochnoi Island.

Among the notable events this week were two magnitude 5.0 earthquakes: one striking 63 miles south of Bobrof Island on February 29, 2024, at 00:22:19 AKST, and the other hitting 49 miles southwest of Davidof Island on March 1, 2024, at 22:50:46 AKST. Additionally, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake occurred 48 miles southeast of King Cove on March 2, 2024, at 10:17:42 AKST. Another significant event was a magnitude 3.8 earthquake recorded 46 miles southeast of Old Harbor on March 2, 2024, at 00:34:15 AKST. Furthermore, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake occurred 13 miles southwest of Anchorage on February 27, 2024, at 08:29:27 AKST, which was reportedly felt in Anchorage.

Throughout the week, we documented 28 aftershocks stemming from the magnitude 5.3 Salcha earthquake on January 19, 2024, with magnitudes ranging from M0.6 to 1.6.

There were 19 icequakes recorded in the Prince William Sound and Yakutat Bay regions.

2 events were reported as felt.
