WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR JUNE 24, 2024 TO JUNE 30, 2024

During the week of June 24, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 649 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.0 that occurred on June 29 at 03:10:33 AKDT (June 29, 11:10:33 UTC), 6 miles S of Koniuji Island. This event was not reported as felt. 

There were 2 events reported as felt this week. The first was a magnitude 3.8 earthquake that occurred on June 28 at 00:55:37 AKDT in Cook Inlet. This event was reported as felt in Anchor Point, Clam Gulch, and Homer. The second was a magnitude 3.2 earthquake that occurred on June 28 at 04:17:07 AKDT 1 mile E of Salcha. This event was reported as felt near Eilson AFB and North Pole. 

Another notable event was a magnitude 4.1 earthquake that occurred on June 27 at 03:37:45 AKDT just across the Canadian border, 38 miles W of Burwash Landing in the Yukon Territory. This event was followed by 4 aftershocks that ranged in magnitude from 2.6 to 1.4. 

High activity continues this week E of Atka, with 12 events occurring between June 24 and June 27. 

There were 7 icequakes recorded this week, occurring mostly in the Prince William Sound area, with one event occurring in the Wrangell area SE of  Juneau. There were 5 quarry blast events recorded, all occurring in the Fairbanks area.
