WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR DECEMBER 23, 2024 TO DECEMBER 29, 2024
During the week of December 23, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 669 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 4.0 that occurred on December 26 at 22:12:33 AKST (December 27, 07:12:33 UTC), 11 miles N of Ninilchik. This event was reported as felt in Homer, Soldotna and surrounding areas.
The swarm activity northeast of Kobuk detected 14 earthquakes, ranging from 1.2 to 2.3 in magnitude. The swarm activity south of Kodiak subsided this week.
There were 3 ice quakes detected in the Prince William Sound, and 2 quarry blasts were recorded.
