WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR AUGUST 12, 2024 TO AUGUST 18, 2024

During the week of August 12, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 683 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 3.9 that occurred on August 12 at 11:55:36 AKDT (August 12, 19:55:36 UTC), 43 miles S of Shemya Is.

A magnitude 3.6 earthquake, located 5 miles south of Fort Richardson, and just 9 miles east of Anchorage, was widely reported as felt in the Anchorage area on August 16, 2024 07:34:26 AKDT.

A magnitude 3.3 earthquake, located 12 miles south of Tyonek, was reported as felt across Anchorage, Clam Gulch, and Girdwood on August 13, 2024 01:35:36 AKDT.

In the Aleutians, the swarm east of Atka continues with 14 events, with magnitudes ranging from 1.3 to 3.3. This is down from last weeks' 18 events in the same swarm. Activity south of Unalaska picked up from the last few weeks, with a total of 11 events this week.

In the areas of Yakutat, Icy Bay, and Prince William Sound, a total of 18 icequakes were recorded, up from last week.

5 quarry blasts were recorded north of the Fairbanks area.

3 events were reported as felt.
