Heather McFarlin
Data Specialist

Heather's duties as a data specialist include analyzing earthquakes recorded by the AEC and parter agencies' seismic stations, occasionally traveling to seismic stations throughout Alaska for maintenance operations, and performing quality control assessments to ensure accurate location and magnitude determinations of the waveform products. Heather also assists with outreach events for the local community and with social media. Heather's Ph.D. research includes analyzing volcanic earthquakes near Lastarria Volcano on the border of Chile and Argentina, and modeling the magma chamber boundaries of the Altiplano-Puna Magma Body near Uturuncu Volcano in southwest Bolivia using attenuation and receiver function methods. In her free time, Heather enjoys spending time with her family, watching/attending sporting events, and reading novels.
