J26L is situated at the head of Joseph Creek. This station sits in a small clearing within the boreal forest of the Yukon Tanana Uplands. J26L is near the Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve. Wildlife can be a challenge: this site has had repeated bear visits in the past. The field crew noted this site "has excellent solar exposure with no risk of botany ever shading the panels.... The horizon is raised by blobby terrain in every direction." The site was acquired in 2019 under dedicated support from our partners at the U.S. Geological Survey to strengthen earthquake monitoring across southern Alaska. The site was originally installed as part of the USArray project. J26L is generously hosted by the Alaska Department of Natural Resources.
