N18K is located on the south side of a plateau, with a clear sky view and no obstructions. Field teams have reported strong winds here. Surrounded by Lake Clark National Park and Preserve, this site rests on the foothills southwest of the Alaska Range. The site was acquired in 2019 under dedicated support from our partners at the U.S. Geological Survey to strengthen earthquake monitoring across southern Alaska. The site was originally installed as part of the USArray project. N18K is generously hosted by our partners at the Alaska Department of Natural Resources.
