BAL is located on Baldy Mountain in the Granite Range, inside Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. The station was originally installed in 1973 and then modernized in 2010 as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act-funded upgrade to the Advanced National Seismic System. Wildlife is a challenge: This site has been damaged by bears in the past. This site is generously hosted by our partners at the National Park Service.
