Eighty miles southwest of Kodiak Island, CHI is one of our most remote and inaccessible stations. It is especially valuable for its proximity to the plate boundary. It was the closest station to the 2021 M8.2 Chignik Earthquake and its aftershocks. Located in the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, CHI is generously hosted by our partners at the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
