KAI is on Kayak Island in the Chugach National Forest, off the coast of Southcentral Alaska. This site is generously hosted by our partners at the National Forest Service. KAI was originally installed in 1982 and modernized in 2011 as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act-funded upgrade to the Advanced National Seismic System. In 2016 the vault was replaced with a USArray-style borehole and new sensor. Persistent fog makes KAI one of our more difficult stations to access and maintain.
