PIN is across the bay from Yakutat, near the Malaspina Glacier. It was installed by the USGS in 1974 and modernized in 1996 with support from NOAA. In 2018 the vault was replaced with a USArray-style borehole and new sensor. Enormous snow loads have damaged station infrastructure and make it impossible to run the site on solar power alone, so we visit PIN periodically to replace non-rechargeable batteries. This site is generously hosted by our partners at the National Park Service.
