R18K is located on a grassy area at the airstrip in Karluk, on the west coast of Kodiak Island. This site is surrounded by the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge. The site was acquired in 2019 under dedicated support from our partners at the U.S. Geological Survey to strengthen earthquake monitoring across southern Alaska. The site was originally installed as part of the USArray project. R18K is generously hosted by the Alaska Department of Transportation - Central Region.
