WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER 16, 2024 TO SEPTEMBER 22, 2024
During the week of September 16, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 741 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.4 that occurred on September 21 at 09:21:17 AKST (September 21, 17:21:17 UTC), 45 miles S of Mt. Gareloi. This event was reported as felt in Adak.
A magnitude 4.0 earthquake, occurring 12 miles east of Unalatleet, on September 18 at 14:41:38 AKDT. This event was reported as felt throughout Unalatleek.
Notably, swarm activity picked up this week 40 miles west of Cordova, ranging from 1.0 to 1.8 in magnitude, occurring in the same location as the magnitude 4.3 earthquake that was reported as felt in Anchorage last week.
A total of 24 Ice quakes were detected and processed in the Icy Bay, Yakutat, and Prince William Sound regions, with a magnitude range of 1.0 to 1.9.
Two events were reported as felt.
