WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER 9, 2024 TO SEPTEMBER 15, 2024
During the week of September 9, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 703 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.0 that occurred on September 15 at 04:41:03 AKST (September 15, 12:41:03 UTC), 28 miles E of Semisopochnoi Island.
There were two events reported as felt this week:
A magnitude 4.3 earthquake that occurred on September 15 at 07:17:05 AKDT, 18 miles SW of Tatitlek in Prince William Sound. This event received 197 felt reports throughout south-central Alaska.
A magnitude 3.5 earthquake that occurred on September 10 at 22:36:48 AKDT, 38 miles SW of Klukwan. This event was reported as felt throughout southeast Alaska.
Another notable event this week was a magnitude 4.0 earthquake that occurred on September 11 at 04:53:14 AKDT, 17 miles SW of Iliamna Volcano. This event was not reported as felt.
There were 28 ice quakes detected in Icy Bay, Yakutat, and Prince William Sound, ranging in magnitude from 0.9 to 1.9.
