During the month of May 2022, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 4069 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.7 that occurred on May 17 at 22:27:55 AKST (May 18, 06:27:55 UTC), 31 miles S of Amchitka. All earthquake of magnitude 4.0 and greater were recorded along the subduction zone except a M4.2  55 miles NW of Elfin Cove on May 5, at 9:48pm AKST.  We continued to monitor ongoing seismic activity within Anchorage, offshore Kodiak and Simeonof-Chignik aftershock sequences as well as crustal seismic activity in the Brooks Range. About 120 icequake were recorded in Prince William Sound, Icy Bay and Yakutat Bay. 9 earthquakes were roported as felt.
