2016 M7.1 Iniskin Earthquake

This event was felt widely across southern and central Alaska and as far away as Fairbanks. Gas leaks in Kenai resulted in fires that destroyed four homes on Lilac Lane, and residents from 20 or so households were evacuated to a temporary shelter at the National Guard armory. The earthquake also damaged Kalifornsky Beach Road about a mile from the Sterling Highway and caused power outages affecting over 10,000 homes across Southcentral Alaska.

The shaking varied considerably across the Anchorage Bowl. This variability in shaking can be seen in maps of instrumental recordings by strong motion sensors across the city.

The shaking from this event was also seen on strong motion instruments in Fairbanks.
