WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR AUGUST 26, 2024 TO SEPTEMBER 1, 2024

During the week of August 26, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 706 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.1 that occurred on August 26 at 07:49:43 AKDT (August 26, 15:49:43 UTC), 63 miles SE of Sand Point. This event had 2 reports of being felt and has 4 associated aftershocks.

Two events were reported as felt in Homer this week. First, a magnitude 3.7 earthquake, located 14 miles northeast of Homer, was reported as felt August 30, 2024 at 23:49:06 AKDT. Following this, a magnitude 4.5 earthquake, located 1 mile east of Homer was widely reported as felt on September 1, 2024 14:12:01 AKDT. Both were felt across the Kenai Peninsula.

A magnitude 4.5 earthquake located 52 miles southeast of False Pass was reported as felt on August 27, 2024 at 14:12:01 AKDT.

Finally, a magnitude 2.1 earthquake 3 miles northeast of Salcha was reported as felt in Delta Junction and Eielson AFB on August 29, 2024 at 18:47:47 AKDT.

Swarm activity has picked up near Cape Yakataga, recording 11 events over the week the largest of which was a magnitude 2.7 earthquake.

There were 17 icequakes and 5 quarry blasts recorded this week.

A total of 5 events were reported as felt this week.
