WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR AUGUST 28, 2023 TO SEPTEMBER 3, 2023

During the week of August 28, 2023, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 704 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.1 that occurred on August 30 at 10:59:25 AKDT (August 30, 18:59:25 UTC), 51 miles SW of Sand Point.

Other significants events include a magnitude 4.5 earthquake that occurred 75 miles SW of Point Hope on August 30, 2023 09:58:51 AKDT, the activity near Point Hope and Chukchi Sea region remained elevated  this week as we recorded 12 earthquakes with magnitude ranging from 2.4 to 4.5, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake that occurred 1 miles S of Denali Park on August 28, 2023 16:34:03 AKDT, and a magnitude 3.2 earthquake that occurred 8 miles S of Tatitlek on August 30, 2023 07:51:30 AKDT.

There were 9 icequakes recorded near Mt. Spurr, Prince William Sound region and Yakutat Bay. 

2 events were reported as felt.
