WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR JANUARY 1, 2024 TO JANUARY 7, 2024

During the week of January 1, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 577 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 4.9 that occurred on January 6 at 20:50:08 AKST (January 7, 05:50:08 UTC), 6 miles E of Seldovia, this event was felt throughout the Kenai Peninsula and Cook Inlet region.

Some of the significant events include a magnitude 4.1 earthquake that occurred 139 miles W of Elfin Cove on January 7, 2024 02:37:03 AKST, a magnitude 3.9 earthquake that occurred 41 miles S of Gambell on January 2, 2024 09:51:50 AKST, a magnitude 3.6 earthquake that occurred 20 miles NW of Valdez on January 1, 2024 20:55:43 AKST, this event was reported as felt in Valdez, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake that occurred 32 miles SW of Kantishna on January 4, 2024 00:54:15 AKST, and a magnitude 3.4 earthquake that occurred 48 miles S of Kaktovik on January 1, 2024 09:07:22 AKST.

There were 5 icequakes recorded in the Prince William Sound region.
