WEEKLY SEISMICITY REPORT FOR JANUARY 13, 2025 TO JANUARY 19, 2025

During the week of January 13, 2025, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 692 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was a magnitude 4.4 event that occurred on January 14 at 16:58:33 AKST (January 15, 01:58:33 UTC), 56 miles south of Port Alexander. This event was felt throughout southeastern Alaska.

Of the four felt events this week, a magnitude 3.7 earthquake that occurred 13 miles south of Clarks Point on January 12 at 19:20:32 AKST was particularly notable. Earthquakes in this region are rare, making it only the second felt event ever reported in the Nushagak Bay area. Additionally, it set a new record for the most felt reports in the region, surpassing its predecessor with a count of six to five.

A small earthquake swarm was detected southeast of Cold Bay, with 13 recorded events. Meanwhile, seismic activity at Mount Spurr continued to subside, with only one recorded event this week.

In addition to tectonic activity, seven ice quakes and four mining blasts were also recorded.
