WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR MAY 19, 2025 TO MAY 25, 2025
During the week of May 19, 2025, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 412 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.2 that occurred on May 22 at 18:30:41 AKDT (May 23, 02:30:41 UTC), 86 miles SE of Akutan. This event occurred as part of a swarm of 13 events that also included the 2nd-largest event of the week, a magnitude 4.6 earthquake that occurred on May 23 at at 03:54:35 AKDT, 84 miles SE of Akutan. Overall, the events in this swarm ranged in magnitude from 2.0 to 5.2. None of these events were reported as felt.
There was a notable event this week in the Kaktovik swarm area, a magnitude 3.7 earthquake that occurred on May 23 at 20:36:07 AKDT, 48 miles S of Kaktovik.
There were 3 events reported as felt this week, although none of these were very large or widely felt. The mostly widely reported of these was a magnitude 3.5 earthquake that occurred on May 22 at 23:23:59 AKDT, 20 miles W of English Bay, with 16 USGS felt reports.
There were 6 icequakes detected this week in the Prince William Sound and Yakutat regions, ranging in magnitude from 1.4 to 1.7.
