WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR MARCH 17, 2025 TO MARCH 23, 2025
During the week of March 17, 2025, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 858 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 6.2 that occurred on March 21 at 06:53:42 AKDT (March 21, 14:53:42 UTC), 55 miles SE of Adak. This large event was part of an aftershock sequence, resulting from a mainshock on the 19th. This sequence, throughout the week, produced more than 230 earthquakes, ranging in magnitude from 1.8 to 6.2.
On March 17, 2025 14:45:40 AKDT, there was a magnitude 3.9 earthquake 32 miles SW of Kantishna. This event was not reported as felt, and has a short aftershock sequence of 22 events over the course of the day.
On March 21, 2025 17:36:29 AKDT, 15 miles NE of Skwentna, a magnitude 3.6 earthquake occurred. This event was reported as felt widely across Chugiak, Anchorage, Eagle River, Palmer, Wasilla and Talkeetna.
This week, 4 icequakes were recorded in the region of Prince William Sound, ranging in magnitude of 1.2 to 1.6.
Overall, there were a total of 5 felt events recorded this week.
