WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR MAY 20, 2024 TO MAY 26, 2024
During the week of May 20, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 710 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 4.5 that occurred on May 20 at 18:30:47 AKDT (May 21, 02:30:47 UTC), 56 miles SE of Middleton Island.
Another notable event this week was a magnitude 4.1 earthquake that occurred 99 miles NE of Old Crow on May 23, 2024 11:04:44 AKDT. Including this, we recorded increased activity in this area with 6 events ranging from magnitude 2.2 to 4.1.
We also observed an increase in activity SE of Adak on May 24th, with approximately 20 events ranging from magnitude 1.5-3.1.
There were 14 icequakes recorded in the Prince William Sound and Yakutat Bay during this week, and one landslide reported 59 miles NE of Icy Bay on May 20, 2024 18:13:57 AKDT.
One event was reported as felt.
