WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR JULY 10, 2023 TO JULY 16, 2023

During the week of July 10, 2023, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 963 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 7.2 that occurred on July 15 at 22:48:21 AKDT (July 16, 06:48:21 UTC), 69 miles S of Sand Point. 

This earthquake was reported as felt strongly in Sand Point and King Cove, and felt widely in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska Peninsula, Kodiak Island, Kenai Peninsula, Anchorage, and Mat-Su Valley. There were nearly 80 aftershocks for this event on July 15th and 16th in this week. 

Other notable events include, a magnitude 3.4 earthquake occurred 9 miles SE of Eagle River on July 11, 2023 21:35:39 AKDT, which was reported as being felt widely in Eagle River, Anchorage and surrounding areas, and a magnitude 3.6 earthquake occurred 182 miles W of Dixon Entrance on July 12, 2023 08:16:05 AKDT. 

There were 14 icequakes detected in Prince William Sound, Icy Bay and Denali National Park and Preserve. 

Five events were reported as felt.
