WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR DECEMBER 18, 2023 TO DECEMBER 24, 2023

During the week of December 18, 2023, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 728 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 6.1 that occurred on December 21 at 05:55:57 AKST (December 21, 14:55:57 UTC), 54 miles S of Atka Pass. This event was followed by 27 aftershocks with magnitude ranging from 4.9 to 2.0.

Some of the notable events include a magnitude 4.7 earthquake that occurred 56 miles S of Tanaga Volcano on December 19, 2023 16:54:11 AKST, a magnitude 4.5 earthquake that occurred 55 miles S of Tanaga Volcano on December 19, 2023 17:04:50 AKST,  and a magnitude 4.1 earthquake that occurred 45 miles S of Kaktovik on December 23, 2023 14:47:51 AKST.

There were 15 icequakes recorded in the Prince William Sound region, Icy Bay and Yakutat Bay.

1 event was reported as felt.
