WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR DECEMBER 2, 2024 TO DECEMBER 8, 2024

During the week of December 2, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 705 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 6.3 that occurred on December 8 at 10:57:07 AKST (December 8, 19:57:07 UTC), 66 miles S of Bobrof Island. This event created an aftershock sequence of 39 events this week, ranging from 2.2 to 5.7 in magnitude.

Our one felt event this week was a magnitude 3.7 earthquake on December 2, 2024 04:14:09 AKST, just 26 miles N of Valdez. This event was reported as felt throughout Valdez.

This week, 8 Icequakes were detected in the Yakutat Bay and Prince William Sound areas, and 6 quarry events were detected.
