WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR JANUARY 27, 2025 TO FEBRUARY 2, 2025

During the week of January 27, 2025, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 686 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.2 that occurred on January 29 at 19:40:08 AKST (January 30, 04:40:08 UTC), 8 miles W of Takotna. This main shock was reported as felt in MC Grath, Nikolai, Shageluk, Crooked Creek, Kaltag, and surrounding areas. There were 36 aftershocks recorded following this event, ranging from 1.2 to 3.3 in magnitude this week.

Two more felt events in this week:

A magnitude 3.9 earthquake that occurred 39 miles E of Healy on January 29, 2025 10:44:04 AKST was reported as felt in Healy, Fairbanks, North Pole, Eielson AFB and Fort Wainwright. 

A magnitude 3.0 earthquake that occurred 4 miles W of Haines on January 27, 2025 15:19:39 AKST was reported as felt in Haines, Skagway and Juneau.

 

Activity at Mt. Spurr declines this week, with just two events recorded.

In addition to tectonic activity, three ice quakes and three mining blasts were also recorded.
