WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR JULY 22, 2024 TO JULY 28, 2024

During the week of July 22, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 813 earthquakes within the state.

The largest event recorded this week was a magnitude 4.7 earthquake that occurred on July 23 at 00:17:57 AKDT (July 23, 08:17:57 UTC), 89 miles SE of Perryville. There were no reports of this event being felt.

Two events were reported as felt this week. First, on July 24, 2024 (01:37:54 AKDT) a magnitude 3.9 earthquake 43 miles S of Kantishna was reported as felt throughout southcentral Alaska. The second was a magnitude 4.5 earthquake that occurred on July 27 (10:12:15 AKDT), 18 miles SE of Redoubt Volcano and was reported as felt in Homer (31 total reports to USGS). 

The event swarm east of Atka continued this week with 17 more earthquakes recorded, the largest of which being a magnitude 2.6 event.

Activity in the Lisburne Peninsula picked back up this week. This swarm was active in April and May of this year, and has reactivated this week with 20 events, the largest being a M4.2.

Seasonal glacial activity subsided this week with only 4 icequakes recorded, and mining activity continued as the Earthquake Center recorded 7 explosive events north of Fairbanks near the Ft. Knox mine.
