WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR OCTOBER 7, 2024 TO OCTOBER 13, 2024

During the week of October 7, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 1031 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.0 that occurred on October 8 at 20:41:07 AKST (October 9, 04:41:07 UTC), 40 miles S of Chagulak Island.

We have recorded 5 moderate earthquakes around magnitude 4.0 or above as being felt widely in surrounding areas: a magnitude 3.9 event that occurred on October 13, 2024 09:04:19 AKDT 4 miles S of Segula Peak, a magnitude 4.6 event that occurred on October 9, 2024 20:51:31 AKDT 26 miles S of Sand Point, a magnitude 4.4 event that occurred on October 11, 2024 23:57:26 AKDT 20 miles W of Akhiok, a magnitude 4.6 event that occurred on October 11, 2024 11:17:33 AKDT 44 miles S of Cantwell, and a magnitude 4.2 event that occurred 29 miles E of Kantishna. 

Activity south of Kaktovik has increased, with approximately 270 recorded, ranging from magnitude 1.1 to 3.9. Swarm activity south of Adak has decreased from last week, totaling 24 events this week. The largest event reported in this swarm this week is an M4.5.

17 icequakes were recorded in Prince William Sound, Icy Bay, Yakutat Bay, and one M2.4 icequake at Miles Glacier, 46 miles east of Cordova.
