WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR AUGUST 15, 2022 TO AUGUST 21, 2022

During the week of August 15, 2022, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 859 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 4.8 that occurred on August 16 at 18:00:18 AKST (August 17, 02:00:18 UTC), 94 miles SE of Yantarni Volcano. All other events greater than M 3.5 occurred along the subduction zone, except for a M3.9 34 miles S of Kantishna,  a Magnitude 3.5  44 miles NE of Brevig Mission. Areas of ongoing seismicity include the Purcell Mountains, Kaktovic, offshore Kodiak, and Simeonof-Chignik zones. There were 70 icequakes recorded near Prince William Sound, Wrangell St. Elias National Park region, Icy Bay, Glacier Bay National Park, and E of Juneau.  3 events were reported as felt.
