WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR DECEMBER 12, 2022 TO DECEMBER 18, 2022

During the week of December 12, 2022, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 949 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 6.3 that occurred on December 14 at 09:40:26 AKST (December 14, 18:40:26 UTC), 18 miles W of Amchitka.

There were 66 aftershocks from this earthquake that occurred through December 18th. They ranged in magnitude from M3.6 to M2.0. The depths ranged from around 55 km to 83 km.

The only noteworthy event that occurred outside the subduction zone was a M3.8 29 miles N of Tyonek.  Twelve volcanic events occurred this week around Katmai with magnitudes between M1.0-M2.4.
