WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR DECEMBER 19, 2022 TO DECEMBER 25, 2022
During the week of December 19, 2022, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 968 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 4.9 that occurred on December 20 at 23:50:51 AKST (December 21, 08:50:51 UTC), 103 miles SE of King Cove.
Other noteworthy events that occurred outside the subduction zone were M4.6 and M3.9 55 miles SW of Prince Rupert, a M3.7 20 miles SE of Cantwell and a deep event M3.7 32 miles S of Kantishna at a depth of 118km.
Seventeen volcanic events were recorded this week around Katmai and Mt. Trident with magnitudes between M0.8-M2.2.
There were 7 icequakes recorded in Prince William Sound, Yakutat, and Icy Bay. Seven events were reported as felt with magnitudes ranging between M2.8 and M4.5.
