WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR JANUARY 2, 2023 TO JANUARY 8, 2023

During the week of January 2, 2023, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 1013 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was a magnitude 4.8 that occurred on January 8 at 01:22:39 AKST (January 8, 10:22:39 UTC), 85 miles SE of Akutan.

The largest felt event was a M3.8 located 15 miles S of Central, which occurred on January 4th at 07:10:38 AKST (16:10:38 UTC).

The Purcell Mountain swarm saw a slight increase in activity with 15 events detected, the largest of which was M2.0.

There were 36 volcanic earthquakes ranging in magnitude from M0.7 to M2.2 in Katmai National Park.  Seven icequakes were recorded in Prince William Sound.

Four events ranging from M2.52 to M3.8 were reported as felt.
