MONTH SEISMICITY REPORT FOR NOVEMBER 2024

During the month of November 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 2537 earthquakes within the state with magnitudes ranging between 0.8 and 5.8 and depths between 0 and 288 km. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.8 that occurred on November 3 at 01:56:47 AKST (November 3, 10:56:47 UTC), 42 miles S of Atka Pass.

We reported  seismic sources other than regional tectonic earthquakes. Of these, 26 were suspected quarry blasts (magnitudes M=1.2-2.4), most of which were located in the vicinity of either Fort Knox or Usibelli mines in Interior Alaska; 30 icequakes (magnitudes M=1.2-2.4), primarily located in the Prince William Sound, Icy Bay, and Yakutat Bay areas. We characterized 32 quakes associated with volcanic activity (M=0.9-2.9) at the volcanoes in the Katmai group and Mt Spurr. We also reported two suspected landslides in the Alaska Range.

Seven events were reported as felt in November. The largest number of DYFI (Did You Feel It) responses, 324, came from the M4.3 earthquake that occurred November 13, at 00:07 am AKST 23 miles W of Tatitlek in the Prince William Sound. This event was widely felt in the south-central region of Alaska  https://earthquake.alaska.edu/event/024em2arnr.
